Hitachi-GE and the regulators welcome comments and questions from the members of the public, organisations, institutions and anybody who is interested in issues relating to the ABWR and its assessment for use in the UK.

GDA process is carried out in a number of specific steps of increasing detail. During GDA, comments can be made about the UK ABWR design via this website and Hitachi-GE will respond to the comments and issues raised. The regulators will see both the questions raised and the responses made and will use these, where relevant, to help inform their assessments. The regulators will publish assessment reports giving their views on the main issues raised and responses from Hitachi-GE at key stages of the process.

The comments process opened on 6 January 2014 and will continue throughout the GDA of the UK ABWR until 15 August 2017, a few months before the regulators expect to make their decisions on the acceptability of the technology.

The regulators have now published multiple assessment reports, and comments will continue to be shared with them as we progress. The Environment Agency will also hold a consultation on their findings so far during the fourth step of GDA, currently expected to begin around the end of 2016.

Comments are invited via the form below or via post at UK ABWR Comments Team, Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd. c/o Hitachi Europe Limited, Nuclear Power Group, Whitebrook Park, Lower Cookham Road, Maidenhead, SL6 8YA.

Where queries fall outside the remit of Hitachi-GE, they may be redirected either to the regulators or to the UK Government. While Hitachi-GE will endeavour to respond fully to all relevant queries, comments should be limited to the ABWR technology and GDA. Any queries on UK Government energy policy should be directed to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy  (www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy) while any issues relating to Horizon Nuclear Power's proposed developments should be directed to Horizon (info@horizonnuclearpower.com).

Hitachi-GE will acknowledge receipt of all queries, and aim to deliver a full response within 30 working days. Where in-depth technical assessment or extensive translation is required, responses may take longer. Questions are invited in either English or Welsh, though for the avoidance of error detailed technical responses will be given in English only. If you have any difficulty in submitting a query, please call +44 (0) 1628 585 330 for technical support.
Anonymised questions may later be posted on the FAQ page of this website.
